19/07/23 (Agence Europe) – On Wednesday 19 July, the Member States approved the agreement reached on 27 June with the European Parliament on the revision of the directive on occupational exposure to asbestos (see EUROPE 13210/25). The agreement reached with the European Parliament provides for a dual system for the occupational exposure limit value: the value of 0.01 fibres/cm3 included in the Commission’s proposal and the EU Council’s general approach will apply after the two-year transposition period for the directive. And, following the introduction of the electron microscopy (EM) methodology, Member States will be able to choose between the following limit values: - 0.01 fibres/cm3 when thin fibres (less than 0.2 micrometres wide) are counted; - or 0.002 fibres/cm3 when thin fibres are not counted.
