On Tuesday 11 July, MEPs adopted the report by Christian Doleschal (EPP, German) on construction products with 498 votes in favour, 124 against and 16 abstentions. This draft regulation updates the sustainability rules for construction products.
The European Parliament is proposing to restrict the scope of products covered by the text and to make standardisation procedures for products more effective (see EUROPE 13186/6). Its position does not differ greatly from that of the EU Council, which was adopted on 30 June (see EUROPE 13214/13).
“With today’s vote, we streamlined the very complex Commission proposal, reduced red tape for users and SMEs, guaranteed full market harmonisation by ensuring that Member States cannot impose additional requirements on the construction product”, said Mr Doleschal.
Negotiations between the two institutions are due to begin on Monday 17 July. (Original version in French by Léa Marchal)
