11/07/2023 (Agence Europe) – MEPs adopted, on Tuesday 11 July, the report by Anna Zalewska (ECR, Polish) on “increasing employee success in the workplace and meeting the growing need for digitally skilled workers”, according to a press release. At a time when 3 out of 4 European companies are having difficulty finding qualified staff, the report, adopted by 508 votes to 12 with 76 abstentions, stresses the need to increase education and vocational training. “One of the reasons for the current shortage of skills and labour is poor working conditions”, the text points out. The report therefore advocates access to vocational training during working hours and reiterates the call for the Commission to propose legislation to ban the practice of unpaid internships.
