11/07/23 (Agence Europe) – On Tuesday, 11 July, the European Parliament approved granting €2.2 million in assistance to 603 former employees of the Walloon company Logistics Nivelles under the ‘European Globalisation Adjustment Fund’ (590 votes in favour, 46 against, and 2 abstentions). This funding is expected to help these redundant employees find new jobs through training and/or support for starting their own businesses. On Tuesday, the European Parliament also approved the Council of the EU’s position on Draft Amending Budget No. 2/2023, which aims to enter the €2.5 billion surplus from the 2022 financial year in the EU budget (606 votes in favour, 4 against, and 29 abstentions). It notes that this surplus will reduce Member States’ total contribution to financing the 2023 budget; it also duly notes the calculation of the annual lump-sum reductions in GNI contributions granted to certain Member States—amounting to just over €5 billion.
