28/06/2023 (Agence Europe) – On Tuesday 27 June, the members of the European Parliament’s Committee on the Internal Market and Consumer Protection (IMCO) were informed of the launch on the previous day of interinstitutional negotiations (trilogue) on the proposal for a directive aimed at amending EU legislation to give consumers a right to information on the lifespan and reparability of products (amendment of Directive 2011/83/EU on consumer rights) and to better protect them against non-credible environmental claims (greenwashing) and premature product obsolescence (amendment of Directive 2005/29/EC on unfair commercial practices). As is customary at an initial trilogue, each institution presented its position. The European Parliament voted on 11 May on the basis of the report by Biljana Borzan (S&D, Croatian) (see EUROPE 13180/17) and the Council of the EU at the beginning of May (see EUROPE 13174/10). (AN)
