30/05/2023 (Agence Europe) – On the evening of Friday 26 May, the European Commissioner for Internal Market, Thierry Breton, announced that the social network Twitter had decided to voluntarily withdraw from the code of practice on disinformation. “Obligations remain. You can run but you can’t hide. Beyond voluntary commitments, fighting disinformation will be a legal obligation under the DSA (see EUROPE 13185/5) as of 25 August”, Mr Breton reacted on Twitter. The code of practice was launched in 2018. On a voluntary basis, around thirty players, including Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat, TikTok and Google, have signed up to this code, which aims to eliminate revenue generated by false information.
