Two world-class centres of health excellence will be created in Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region

After months of presentations, juries and preparation, the French President, Emmanuel Macron, has confirmed that two centres of world excellence in health will soon be created in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region, Renaud Muselier, the President of this region, said in a press release on Wednesday 17 May.

A University Hospital Institute (IHU) entirely dedicated to respiratory health, the environment and ageing will be set up in Nice. “This major centre will bring together more than 600 people, doctors, researchers and industrialists, as well as a dozen laboratories of national and European scope”, says Mr Muselier. It will be the first French and European organisation to bring together on the same site unique national and international expertise in basic and clinical research for training, innovation and care in the field of respiratory diseases related to ageing.

In addition, the French President confirmed the establishment of a ‘biocluster’ in Marseille dedicated to the development of tomorrow’s treatments for cancers, autoimmune and infectious diseases. (Original version in French by Lionel Changeur)
