15/05/2023 (Agence Europe) – “We need to make sure that we do not have a bottleneck in the EU of Ukrainian grain, so that we have a seamless transit throughout the EU”, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said on Monday 15 May. The EU has adopted measures to address problems in five EU countries (Poland, Hungary, Romania, Bulgaria and Slovakia) arising from large stocks of grain from Ukraine (see EUROPE 13181/2). Ms von der Leyen admitted that the task was not easy, “because you need a lot of transport capacity to make sure that this grain that typically went through the Black Sea now takes other routes”. She also mentioned the establishment of a “platform to ensure the seamless processing of agri-food products from Ukraine to the EU, taking into account transit issues”. (LC)
