European Parliament gives green light for €145 million macrofinancial assistance to Moldova

09/05/2023 (Agence Europe) – Adopting the Commission’s initial proposal (see EUROPE 13106/24) without modification, on Tuesday 9 May the European Parliament approved by a large majority (561 votes in favour, 43 against and 20 abstentions) the granting of new macrofinancial assistance to Moldova in the amount of €145 million (€100 million in loans and €45 million in grants), to help the EU candidate country cover its financing needs in 2023. The assistance will be disbursed in two instalments in the third and fourth quarters, if certain policy conditions are met by Moldova, such as judicial reforms, respect for the rule of law and the fight against corruption, as well as significant progress in the implementation of an IMF macroeconomic programme.
