09/05/2023 (Agence Europe) – On Tuesday 9 May, the spokesperson for the European External Action Service expressed the EU’s serious concerns about the escalation of violence in Gaza following Israeli air raids earlier in the day. At least 15 people have died in strikes against members of Islamic Jihad. “The EU deeply regrets the loss of civilian lives, including children, and calls for the respect of international humanitarian law. Civilian lives must be protected under all circumstances”, the spokesperson said in a statement. He called on all parties to “exercise maximum restraint, promote calm and work towards a political horizon and regional stability, in line with the commitments in the Aqaba and Sharm el-Sheikh declarations”.
