Taxonomy and circular economy, FIEC warns of possible uneven playing field in EU

12/04/2023 (Agence Europe)Some elements of the draft delegated act on environmental issues in the taxonomy, which aim in particular to promote the circular economy, “still lack justification and could create an uneven playing field between EU Member States”, the European Construction Industry Federation (FIEC) said in a statement on Wednesday 12 April. Although the European Commission has adopted “a more balanced approach”, “further improvements are still needed if we really want a workable taxonomy”, commented Pekka Vuorinen, former FIEC representative on the Platform on Sustainable Finance. FIEC and its members will thus continue the dialogue with the EU institutions and national authorities. The European Commission has initiated two consultations on taxonomy, including one on economic activities that make a substantial contribution to one or more environmental objectives (see EUROPE 13159/4)(AD)
