As Armenia and Azerbaijan clash again, EU wants to intensify negotiations on a recognised border

12/04/2023 (Agence Europe)The spokesperson of the European External Action Service (EEAS) deplored on Wednesday 12 April the armed clashes in the Tegh region on the Armenian-Azerbaijani border the previous day, which left several soldiers from both sides dead and many others injured. The EEAS calls for the respect of the 1991 line and the commitments made at the Quadrilateral Summit in Prague in October 2022 regarding the mutual recognition of territorial integrity (see EUROPE 13038/3), in accordance with the Almaty Declaration which established the Commonwealth of Independent States. The EU also calls for the “intensification of negotiations” on the delimitation of the border and affirms its support for this, notably through its civilian CSDP mission in Armenia (EUMA Armenia) (see EUROPE 13125/10).
