29/03/2023 (Agence Europe) – On Tuesday 28 March, the European Environmental Bureau (EEB), a large federation of environmental NGOs, welcomed the ambition of MEPs in the European Parliament’s Committee on the Internal Market and Consumer Protection (IMCO) to tackle climate ‘greenwashing’ and early product obsolescence and thus empower consumers for the Green Transition (see EUROPE 13151/10). By voting in favour of strengthening EU legislation to protect consumers against unfair commercial practices,“the European Parliament defended consumer rights and reinforced the objectives of this law: to clear the EU market from misleading green claims and labels, and to empower consumers to choose truly sustainable and durable products”, the NGO said. EEB calls on the whole Parliament to endorse the IMCO Committee’s position and confirm the ambition of the proposal. (AN)
