Thirty-two deep tech companies to receive €196 million in EU support

The European Innovation Council (EIC) announced on Wednesday 29 March that a first wave of 32 deep tech companies will receive financial support from its EIC Accelerator after the EIC Accelerator’s first cut-off for 2023, which took place in January.

The 32 selected companies will share financial support totalling almost €196 million, divided between European grants and equity investments made under the new EIC Fund (see EUROPE 13033/5).

There were 476 companies that applied by the deadline and 159 were selected by a jury of investors and entrepreneurs to continue the selection process.

The EIC has reported that in 13 of the 32 companies that were selected – i.e. 40% – a woman is in a leadership position. The EIC claims that this represents the highest proportion of selected companies run by women to date.

In addition, a new deadline was set for 22 March. In total, 551 full proposals were submitted and evaluations are underway.

The EIC Fund also continues to make investment decisions for companies that have been selected by the EIC accelerator in 2021 and 2022. The Fund has so far adopted 93 investment decisions for an amount of €574.7 million.
