29/03/2023 (Agence Europe) – On Tuesday 28 March, the European Commission issued €6 billion of Next Generation EU green bonds in its fourth syndicated operation for 2023. The single-tranche transaction was executed through a top-up of the green bond maturing on 4 February 2048. The Commission intends to finance 30% of its Next Generation EU stimulus programme by issuing green bonds, making it the largest issuer of green bonds in the world. Tuesday’s transaction brings the total volume of Next Generation EU green bonds issued to date to €42.5 billion. The proceeds of these bonds will be used to finance environmental projects arising from Member States’ national recovery and resilience plans (RRPs). The sum of eligible expenditure for green bonds under Member States’ RRPs currently stands at €187 billion. (LC)
