22/03/23 (Agence Europe) – The European Commission and UNICEF advocate for increased collective commitment and public funding to ensure the continuity of education for children in humanitarian crises. The call was made in unison on Wednesday 22 March at the end of the High-Level Conference on Education in Emergencies. In fact, a UNICEF study estimates that of 222 million school-age children affected by crises, 78 million are out of school (https://aeur.eu/f/5yf ). The EU aims to provide €158 million for education in emergencies projects globally in 2023. The Commission also recalls that the EU dedicates 10% of its humanitarian aid budget to this area and 10% of its development aid to education. Lastly, between 2015 and 2022, the Union allocated EU allocated €970 million for education in emergencies. (HS)
