22/03/2023 (Agence Europe) – The European Parliament’s Committee on Budgetary Control gave an negative opinion, on Wednesday 22 March, on the EU Council’s proposal to appoint Martin Klus as a member of the EU Court of Auditors. The application of the Slovak member was rejected (20 votes against and 3 abstentions). The mandate of the previous Slovak member of the Court of Auditors, Ladislav Balko, expired on 6 May 2022. Martin Klus was a member of the National Council of the Slovak Republic from 2016 to 2020. From the parliamentary elections of 2020 until September 2022, Mr Klus was State Secretary in the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs. In September 2022, he became a member of the National Council again. The European Parliament will discuss his application in plenary (29-30 March). The Council of the EU has the final say. (LC)
