The European Research Council (ERC), established by the European Commission, announced the publication on Tuesday 21 March of the results of a new study analysing the characteristics of 220 data repositories and scientific publications.
The study aims to identify repositories that could help applicants or beneficiaries of ERC grants or other grants under the European Research Framework Programme, Horizon Europe, to comply with European open science requirements when sharing the results of their EU-funded projects.
Indeed, the Horizon Europe Model Grant Agreement (HE MGA) includes new requirements to foster open science. As such, not only must grantees deposit their research results in repositories to make them accessible, but grant agreements also contain several qualitative requirements regarding the reliability of the repositories and the metadata provided by the researchers.
The report is accompanied by an inventory of literature repositories to help researchers applying for or receiving EU funding to comply with Horizon Europe’s open science requirements. Due to the rapid developments in the field, a revision of this inventory is already envisaged for the second half of 2023.
