15/03/2023 (Agence Europe) – Wojciech Wiewiórowski, the European Data Protection Supervisor (EDPS), opened his office in the European Parliament in Strasbourg on Tuesday 14 March. He hopes to increase his support for the EU’s legislative process and strengthen his cooperation with the European Ombudsman, Emily O’Reilly. The already well-established collaboration with the Council of Europe (COE) should also be strengthened, as confirmed by Bjørn Berge, Deputy Secretary General of the Organisation. He recalled the conventions already implemented by the COE to protect human rights in new technologies (Conventions 108 / 108+ / protocol to the Convention on Cybercrime) and announced a new one on artificial intelligence. Deepening the synergies between the European Union and the COE is one of the objectives of the next COE Summit, scheduled for 16-17 May in Reykjavik. (VL)
