European Parliament sets out its position on reform of European economic governance framework

15/03/23 (Agence Europe)The European Parliament endorsed, on Wednesday 15 March, without modifying it, the draft ‘Tinagli’ report setting out MEPs’ priorities for reform of the European economic governance framework (see EUROPE 13132/19). In particular, it welcomes the setting of differentiated paths for the reduction of a Member State’s public debt according to national specificities. And, according to MEPs, the budgetary performance of an EU country should be assessed against the same standards and common criteria, not leading to differential treatment. None of the amendments from The Left group, which denounced, for example, the obsession with reducing the public deficit, and Identity and Democracy group, which criticised the interference of the European level in the reform of pensions in France, were adopted.
