15/03/23 (Agence Europe) – Latvia, Lithuania and Bulgaria will ask the European Commission at the Agriculture Council on Monday 20 March for measures under the Common Market Organisation (CMO) to improve the current situation in the dairy sector. In a note dated 14 March, these countries call for: - exceptional financial support, financed from the crisis reserve, for milk producers in the countries most affected by the crisis in the sector; - a proposal to revise and increase the buying-in prices for skimmed milk powder and butter in public intervention, ‘as the current levels of these prices (1698 EUR/t and 2217.50 EUR/t, respectively) have not been revised for a long time, are outdated and therefore do not correspond to the increase in production costs’.
