T&E says leasing companies are undermining transition to electric vehicles

28/02/23 (Agence Europe)On Tuesday 28 February, the NGO Transport & Environment (T&E ) published a study in which it considers that leasing companies are hindering the transition to electric cars because of their high prices and “weak zero emission targets”. T&E believes that battery-powered electric models are overpriced and are on average 57% more expensive than equivalent petrol models. However, “leasing companies typically charge customers for the expected loss in value of a vehicle over a three to four year period, so higher lease prices mean that they expect electric vehicles to lose more value. But this is no longer the case”, says T&E, which points out that battery electric vehicles have a similar resale value to diesel and petrol vehicles. (TM)
