01/02/23 (Agence Europe) – Member States’ ambassadors to the European Union (Coreper I) approved on Wednesday 1 February the final compromise text of the European Commission’s proposal amending the medical devices and implantable devices regulations. The Commission had submitted a proposal on 6 January (see EUROPE 13094/1) to avoid a shortage of devices during the transition period to the new regulations EU/2017/745 and EU/2017/746. The Member States’ ambassadors had endorsed the Commission’s text on 25 January without amendment (see EUROPE 13107/9). The European Parliament plans to adopt the compromise text at first reading in mid-February in plenary and under its urgency procedure (see EUROPE 13108/9). The reference to compliance with the principles of proportionality and subsidiarity will be added. Formal adoption by the EU Council is expected in early March.
