Updating stability requirements for passenger ships, Interinstitutional Agreement approved in European Parliament Committee

01/02/23 (Agence Europe)MEPs on the European Parliament’s Committee on Transport voted unanimously (39 votes in favour), on Tuesday 31 January, to support of the agreement reached by the EU Council and the European Parliament on updating the stability requirements for passenger ships. The final vote of the European Parliament will take place at the next plenary session in Strasbourg in February. As a reminder, the new standards are intended, among other things, to improve the safety of passengers on board ships, including ro-ro ships, after damage, and to align the current rules with the standards introduced by the International Maritime Organization (IMO) in January 2020.
