01/02/2023 (Agence Europe) – The agreement between the European Parliament and the Council of the European Union on the revision of the EU Emissions Trading System (ETS), reached before the Christmas break, is expected to be submitted for approval by Member States’ ambassadors to the EU (Coreper) on 8 February, according to the provisional agenda for the meeting. The ambassadors will also vote on the Interinstitutional Agreements on the aviation component of the ETS, the Market Stability Reserve (MSR), the ‘Social Climate Fund’ and the ‘Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism’. In order to enter into force, these agreements must not only receive the green light from the ambassadors, but also be adopted by the Parliament, before being endorsed at ministerial level. Votes in the Parliament’s Committee on the Environment, Public Health and Food Safety (ENVI) are scheduled for 9 February.
