19/01/2023 (Agence Europe) – The future EU General Product Safety Regulation (GPSR) for the digital age, which was provisionally agreed on 28 November 2022 between the Parliament and the Council of the EU (see EUROPE 13073/2), will soon be submitted for approval to the European Parliament’s Committee on the Internal Market and Consumer Protection (IMCO). This future regulation will replace an outdated EU directive from 2001 to ensure the same high level of safety, regardless of whether products are sold in shops or on online marketplaces and regardless of their origin. The text of the final inter-institutional compromise, already endorsed by the EU Member States at the end of the Czech Presidency of the Council (see EUROPE 13089/11), is now published.
