19/01/23 (Agence Europe) – The agreement on the revision of the European Union’s Emissions Trading System (ETS), reached between the European Parliament and the Council of the European Union before the Christmas break, is expected to be submitted for approval by the Member States’ ambassadors to the EU (Coreper) in early February, according to information gathered by EUROPE. Some parts of the text of the agreement (see EUROPE 13087/4) still need to undergo “technical, legal and linguistic adjustments” in order to “truly reflect the political deal”, a parliamentary source told us. Two technical meetings have already taken place between the co-legislators, on 13 and 17 January. They intend to finalise the few remaining details, either through simple e-mail exchanges or during a final meeting. In order to enter into force, the agreement must not only receive the green light from the ambassadors, but also be adopted by the Parliament (in a parliamentary committee and then in plenary), before being ratified at ministerial level.
