12/01/2023 (Agence Europe) – The European Parliament’s Committee on Constitutional Affairs on Thursday 12 January unanimously approved amendment of the Rules of Procedure so that the European Parliament would be able to formally announce requests for the waiver of parliamentary immunity that it receives from the European Public Prosecutor’s Office. The reform should be ratified on Tuesday 17 January and enter into force the next day so that European Parliament President Roberta Metsola can formally announce in Strasbourg the requests of the European Public Prosecutor’s Office received at the end of 2022 concerning the Greeks Eva Kaili (S&D) and Maria Spyráki (EPP). The European Public Prosecutor’s Office, when asked by the European Anti-Fraud Office about possible fraud against the EU budget in relation to parliamentary allowances, said the request was not related to the alleged corruption scandal involving MEPs, including Ms Kaili.
