12/01/2023 (Agence Europe) – On Thursday 12 January, members of the European Parliament’s Committee on Civil Liberties approved the report by Annalisa Tardino (ID, Italian) approving the agreement between Europol and the New Zealand authorities to exchange data for crime-fighting purposes, by 50 votes to 3 with 1 abstention. The agreement will boost “operational law enforcement cooperation by allowing the exchange of personal data between the EU’s law enforcement agency, Europol, and the New Zealand authorities in the fight against serious crime and terrorism”, says a statement. This agreement builds on the existing cooperation agreements between Europol and New Zealand in the field of law enforcement and counter-terrorism. The EU Council adopted its decision in June.
