12/01/2023 (Agence Europe) – The European Commission has approved €25.5 million in additional humanitarian aid for several African countries, the EU institution announced on Thursday 12 January. This package will address the growing food and nutrition needs of the most vulnerable populations in some of the most food-insecure countries, strengthen social protection schemes and support water sanitation and hygiene. In conflict areas, such as Sudan, this will also include support for newly displaced populations and their host communities. The funds will be distributed as follows: - Sudan: €10 million; - The Central African Republic: €4 million; - Southern Africa and the Indian Ocean: €5.5 million; - Cameroon: €2 million; - Chad: €2 million; - Algeria: €2 million. The aid will be channelled through the Commission’s humanitarian partners in the field. (AN)
