12/01/2023 (Agence Europe) – With 42 votes in favour, 9 against and 2 abstentions, MEPs in the Committee on Economic and Monetary Affairs (ECON) on Thursday 12 January confirmed the Interinstitutional Agreement on the European long-term investment fund (ELTIF) (see EUROPE 13047/20). The aim is to make these hitherto little-used investment funds more attractive in order to stimulate the financing of long-term projects such as infrastructure, real estate or SMEs throughout the EU. All ELTIFs will have to comply with the Markets in Financial Instruments Directive (MIFID). They will be tested for their suitability for retail investors and will have clear warnings about their illiquidity or volatility. The agreement still has to be voted on in the plenary session of the European Parliament. To read the agreement: https://aeur.eu/f/4vh (AD)
