01/12/2022 (Agence Europe) – Some 30 MEPs from 19 Member States and from the Renew Europe, S&D, EPP, ECR, Greens/EFA, ID and non-attached groups called on the EU, in a letter of 28 November to the President of the European Commission and the High Representative of the Union, to adopt sanctions against the Russian paramilitary organisation Wagner for its actions in Ukraine, but also in Africa. They call for the ninth package of sanctions against Russia to include measures against Wagner and any natural or legal persons, entities and bodies associated with it. The group is already subject to restricted measures (see EUROPE 12852/7). As requested on 23 November (see EUROPE 13069/1), MEPs are calling for the group to be included on the EU’s ‘terrorist’ list. “No impunity for butchers”, warned Nathalie Loiseau (Renew Europe, French).
