01/12/2022 (Agence Europe) – Members of the European Parliament’s Committee on the Environment, Public Health and Food Safety (ENVI) approved by a very large majority (73 votes in favour, two against and two abstentions), on Thursday 1 December, the provisional agreement between the co-legislators on the reporting requirements for aviation emissions offsets under the ‘Carbon Offsetting and Reduction Scheme for International Aviation’ (CORSIA). In order to implement the ‘CORSIA’ scheme, the European Commission had presented a proposal for a decision on the notification to EU-based airlines of the compensation for the year 2021, while specifying that this compensation will most likely be zero due to the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic on aviation in 2019, the reference year (see EUROPE 12764/10). Member States will have to submit this notification by 30 November 2022. (DG)
