01/12/2022 (Agence Europe) – On Thursday 1 December, the European Commission announced the launch of six new European centres to combat disinformation. From the middle of next year, these will look at information in Austria, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Estonia, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Malta, Romania and Slovenia. With the eight centres already in place by 2021, all EU countries will now be covered by anti-disinformation centres. The new ‘hubs’ will join the European Digital Media Observatory (EDMO) and will receive a total of €8 million in funding from the Digital Europe programme. Their objective is to fight against disinformation and to set up a network capable of detecting disinformation campaigns, while deploying media literacy activities. (HS)
