The EU Court of Auditors published on Tuesday 8 November its work programme for 2023 focusing on priority topics such as the economic recovery plan, energy, the climate and security.
The Court of Auditors’ work programme for 2023 and beyond consists of 82 themes related to strategic priority areas.
There will be 12 audits examining the €800 billion Next Generation EU instrument, created to address the effects of the Covid-19 pandemic. The ‘Recovery and Resilience Facility’ (RRF) is the core of this recovery plan.
The work programme includes 21 audits focusing on, among other things, energy security, pollution, animal transport and sustainable food production. The Court will also examine the EU’s external action, such as aid for refugees, military mobility and the Common Foreign and Security Policy.
Rule of law. The Court will also publish a report in 2024 on the ‘Rule of law conditionality’ regulation to protect the EU’s financial interests.
Other topics covered by the Court in 2023 will include battery production, investment in artificial intelligence and the promotion of hydrogen in transport, banking supervision and tax competition in the EU, and the performance of the European Fund for Strategic Investments.
Lobbying activities in the context of EU decision-making will also be examined, as will the measures taken by the Union in relation to conflicts of interest and the fight against fraud against the EU budget.
