12/10/2022 (Agence Europe) – The European Commission proposed the full suspension of the visa waiver agreement with Vanuatu on Wednesday 12 October. The initiative was triggered by the continuing security risks posed by the investor citizenship (‘golden passport’) regimes in place on the Pacific island. A partial suspension of this agreement entered into force in May (see EUROPE 12904/27). The Commission reports that it has established an enhanced dialogue with Vanuatu since the spring, but no action has been taken by the Vanuatu authorities to mitigate the risks identified. The next step is to apply the suspension to all Vanuatu citizens holding ordinary, diplomatic, service, official or special passports, she added. It is now up to the Council of the European Union to decide on the full suspension of the visa waiver agreement. See the Commission’s proposal: https://aeur.eu/f/3l4 (MB)
