19/09/2022 (Agence Europe) – On Monday 19 September, the European Commission opened a contribution period to update the European list of ship recycling facilities. The next version of the list should see the addition of one facility in Bulgaria and the extension of the licence of another in Lithuania. However, two facilities based in Turkey should be removed from the list. The Commission had conducted a mid-term review on the first of these in Işıksan. This review could not confirm that the established requirements were met. The second, based in Simsekler, has not kept its commitments to inform the European Commission of the measures put in place to improve worker safety, requested after two fatal accidents.
