European Banking Authority’s work has not been affected by Brexit, according to Commission

The European Banking Authority’s (EBA) tasks and powers, the organisation of its governance structure, the operation of its main organisation, and its main financing were not affected by the relocation of its seat,” the European Commission said.

In a report to the European Parliament and the Council of the EU dated Thursday 4 August, which EUROPE has obtained, the Commission states that “the relocation of the EBA’s seat has had no impact on the core funding of its activities by the EU and the competent national authorities”.

Following Brexit, the EBA’s seat was moved from London to Paris.

The EBA has been fully operational in its new offices in Paris since the beginning of June 2019. It has provided the necessary elements to fulfil the reporting requirements. The first three reports were published in 2019, 2020 and 2021. This is the fourth report under this reporting obligation.

In addition to its core funding, the French government is providing €8.5 million to cover the costs of the Paris office, including €1.5 million for set-up costs, which have already been received and spent, and €7 million for ongoing rental costs, which are to be received over the three-year period.
