29/08/2022 (Agence Europe) – On Monday 29 August, the European Commission opened a public consultation period on the review of slot allocation rules at EU airports. In concrete terms, the Commission’s aim is to push EU airports to use their capacity more efficiently and - in line with the lessons learned from the pandemic and in the context of the war in Ukraine - to make the allocation system “more responsive and resilient” in the event of a crisis. In addition, future rules will also have to take into account “other policy priorities”, such as decarbonisation of air transport, connectivity and intermodality, the Commission says. It should also be noted that the European Commission will address the issue of airport slots to the members of the European Parliament Transport Committee on 31 August.
