18/07/2022 (Agence Europe) – As announced by EUROPE (see EUROPE 12993/17), the Council of the EU adopted, on Monday 18 July, in the framework of the European Peace Facility, a €25 million assistance measure for the Nigerian armed forces. This measure aims to strengthen the capacity and resilience of these forces, while Niger plays “a major role in initiatives to strengthen peace and development in the Sahel”, the EU Council said in its statement. EU aid will finance the creation of a training centre for the armed forces technicians to increase the capacity of the Nigerien armed forces in the field of logistical support and the construction of a forward operational base to reduce the vulnerability of the armed forces in the Tillabéri region (south-west). The duration of the assistance measure will be 36 months. (CG)
