18/07/2022 (Agence Europe) – On Monday 18 July, the European Commission approved Dutch aid of €155 million to support the fisheries sector whose activities are suffering from the effects of the UK’s withdrawal from the EU. The objective is to encourage vessel owners to cease their fishing activities by scrapping their vessels. The scheme will run until 31 December 2023. Aid will be granted to owners of Dutch registered ships (direct grant) to compensate them for the cessation of their activities. The amount of aid will be calculated on the basis of the gross tonnage of the scrapped vessel and taking into account the loss of income. The fishing capacity of the vessel leaving the fleet will not be replaced by another vessel. The measure will be funded from the Brexit Adjustment Reserve. (LC)
