04/07/2022 (Agence Europe) – The deadly violence perpetrated on 30 June “by the Sudanese security forces against peaceful demonstrators is totally unacceptable”, stressed EU High Representative Josep Borrell in the aftermath of the crackdown. “The Sudanese authorities have once again violated fundamental human rights such as freedom of assembly, freedom of expression and the protection of civilians”, he said in a statement issued on behalf of the EU27. He said that the events “show that the military authorities are not willing to create an environment conducive to dialogue” (see EUROPE 12963/28). Deploring the fact that “more than 100 protesters [have been] killed and thousands injured since last year’s military coup”, he added: “It is time to listen to the hundreds and thousands of Sudanese who want freedom, peace and justice for all.” (AN)
