04/07/2022 (Agence Europe) – The EU assured that it will bring its steel safeguards in line with World Trade Organization (WTO) rules, at a meeting of the WTO Dispute Settlement Body on 30 June. Earlier this year, a panel in Geneva ruled that the EU’s safeguard measures were incompatible with several WTO agreements (see EUROPE 12942/10). The EU has indicated that it needs time to be in compliance, given the scale of the task. It also said it was ready to agree with Turkey, which is behind the dispute, on the duration of the compliance period. Ankara said on 30 June that it had taken note of the EU’s request for a deadline and looked forward to working with the EU on this issue. (LM)
