01/06/2022 (Agence Europe) – On Monday 30 May, the European Union welcomed the lifting of the state of emergency in Sudan, as well as the release of detainees and the decision to allow the Al Jazeera Mubasher channel to resume its operations. However, it expects more, as “time is of the essence” to “find an inclusive and sustainable way out of the current crisis”, said the European External Action Service’s spokesperson. “We therefore call upon authorities to continue their efforts to create a truly conducive environment for dialogue, by completing the release of those who were detained since 25 October last, ensuring due process to those detainees who face criminal charges against them and effectively ending the violence against peaceful demonstrators”, she said. The EU calls upon all parties to engage in the dialogue constructively (see EUROPE 12953/18). (AN)
