21/06/2022 (Agence Europe) – On Tuesday 21 June the European Parliament’s Committee on Budgets approved (27 votes in favour, one against and no abstentions) the draft amending budget which increases the 2022 appropriations in the EU budget to support people fleeing Ukraine because of the war started by Russia (see EUROPE 12937/6). This represents an increase of €99.8 million in commitments and €176 million in payment appropriations. The funds will be channelled through the Asylum, Migration and Integration Fund (AMIF) and the Border Management and Visa Instrument (BMVI). Taking into account the possibilities for redeployment, the total amount of funds available for migration and border management is €400 million. The funds will help EU countries meet the costs of the initial reception and registration of people fleeing Ukraine. (LC)
