21/06/2022 (Agence Europe) – TikTok has committed to bringing its practices into line with EU advertising and consumer protection rules, namely the Unfair Commercial Practices Directive, the Consumer Rights Directive and the Unfair Contract Terms Directive, according to an announcement made by the European Commission on Tuesday 21 June. This outcome is the result of a dialogue initiated by the Commission and the network of national consumer protection authorities and held with the Chinese company following a complaint lodged by BEUC in February 2021. In its complaint regarding unfair commercial practices and failure to protect children, BEUC claimed that the popular Chinese platform was guilty of multiple violations of European consumer rights and had failed to protect children from hidden advertising and inappropriate content (see EUROPE 12659/20).
