07/06/2022 (Agence Europe) – On 3 June, the European Commission launched a four-week public consultation on a draft delegated directive updating an annex to Directive 2000/53/EC on end-of-life vehicles (ELV). The ELV Directive restricts the use of certain hazardous substances in materials and components of vehicles put on the market after 1 July 2003, but Annex II lists materials and components for specific applications that are exempt from these restrictions. The current exemptions allow the use of lead in aluminium and copper alloys and batteries. They were to be reviewed in 2021. The Commission considers that in some cases the use of lead is currently unavoidable. In one case, the use of lead should be extended, and a review is recommended in 2025. The consultation is open until 1 July. To consult it: https://aeur.eu/f/1yl (AN)
