The European Parliament approved, on Tuesday 7 June, the appointment of Margreet Föberg to the selection panel of the European Public Prosecutor’s Office (EPPO) for the next four years. This panel is used to draw up a list of candidates for the position of European Chief Prosecutor. Margreet Fröberg is a prosecutor in the Netherlands. She will join eleven other members who will be appointed by the EU Council later this year on a proposal from the Commission. The European Parliament is responsible for appointing one of the twelve members.
Members of the European Parliament’s Committee on Civil Liberties, Justice and Home Affairs (LIBE) had proposed the appointment on 30 May (see EUROPE 12962/26). In addition, the European Public Prosecutor’s Office has just celebrated its first anniversary (see EUROPE 12964/33) and the Justice Ministers of the EU Member States will visit the EPPO headquarters on Thursday 9 June in the margins of a ‘Justice and Home Affairs’ Council of the EU.
