07/06/2022 (Agence Europe) – On Thursday 2 June, the European Commission launched a call for evidence to assess the effectiveness of the Ship Recycling Regulation. In concrete terms, the Commission intends to take stock of whether or not the text has been successful in achieving the objectives set, to examine the factors that have influenced the progress made, and to analyse the actual costs and potential disparities in this area between Member States. In addition, the Commission wishes to explore possibilities to reduce these costs and simplify the legislation. Finally, part of this call for evidence also addresses the relevance of the text and how consistent it is with other EU policies, such as the ‘European Green Deal’, the circular economy action plan, the sustainable and smart mobility strategy and the sustainable blue economy communication.
