07/06/2022 (Agence Europe) – MEPs voted by an overwhelming majority (546 votes in favour, 4 against and 13 abstentions), on Tuesday 7 June, to renew the agreement between the EU and the US on the promotion, provision and use of the European satellite navigation system, Galileo, and the American GPS system. This agreement strengthens cooperation, both bilaterally and in multilateral fora, to promote and facilitate the use of these signals, services and equipment for peaceful civil, commercial and scientific purposes. This renewal extends the agreement for a further five years. As a reminder, this agreement was signed in the Dromoland Castle, in Ireland, on 26 June 2004. It entered into force on 12 December 2011 for an initial period of ten years and expired on 11 December 2021. (PH)
